#69 Sell Lemonade

A great way to spend time with kids is to sell lemonade together

Sell Lemonade Together:

It’s funny how some things change over time, and some don’t. Making and selling lemonade probably goes back 50-75 years or more, and yet it is still a simple and a great way to teach your children about how money works.

The most challenging thing about this idea is what you want to use for a lemonade stand. There are various ways you can go about this utilizing sites like Craigslist for someone local selling one. You can see if anyone has one you can borrow. You can take something that looks like a lemonade stand and use that, or you can get creative and make your own. If you are that creative and handy with wood and would like to take that approach, turn the date into two, one to make the lemonade stand and one to make and sell the lemonade.

Regardless of how you get the stand to use, make sure that you involve your child in every step of the process from obtaining the stand, buying your ingredients, making the lemonade, and everything else.

Make sure you set your stand up in a highly visible, highly trafficked location for the best result.

Keep in mind that age doesn’t matter here. You can do this idea with your four or 14-year-old.

WMTDS (What Makes This Date Special):

This time with your child is special because of all the things involved. There is the planning, creativity in how you come up with the stand to sell the lemonade, buying the groceries to make it, making it together, and then being outside with them watching them see the value in their hard work.

Teachable Moments:

This is a great way to teach your children about money AND interacting with strangers at the same time. The child needs to know the basic principles of buying something at one cost and selling it for another.
