A great way to spend time with your kids is to give manicures to the elderly

Give Manicures or Pedicures To The Elderly:

Give manicures or pedicures to the elderly. We have had ideas related to visiting a nursing home or senior center, but this one is more specific in pampering the ladies while there. A lot of women enjoy treating themselves to a manicure or pedicure during their busy lives. One of the things that the elderly ladies lose when living in a nursing home is someone pampering them in. Giving a manicure/pedicure is something that could quickly be done in most places, and it would make a senior citizen’s day. You could do this at a nursing home, senior center, or you could offer it to an elderly lady still living at home.

WMTDS (What Makes This Date Special):

Finding simple ways to serve others, especially the elderly, is a special thing someone can do, especially with their child. This idea is an excellent way for you and your child to serve together. Your child can also learn from the elderly person and form or deepen a relationship with them.

Teachable Moments:

Serving Others

Importance of value and respect of the elderly in our community

Variations:

Partner with someone that could cut their hair for them (men or women)

Shine shoes for men

Help them with their electronics

Have your child draw pictures and decorate their room

Have a photography session

“Adopt” an elderly person and visit and pamper them often

Once you understand the concept, the endless possibilities for adventure and unique photographs are there for your mind and creativity to discover for this date.

Expense:

This date doesn’t have to cost very much at all. You might even have local businesses donate the materials you need if you explain what you’re doing. Regardless, you can make this date work for about any budget.

chalkboard parentingPlanning:

You will want to contact the facility or individual and work out a time that will work for everyone. If you are visiting a senior center or nursing home, let them know what you would like to do so that you can work with their schedule and you may want to ask them if they can recommend some guests that have the least amount of family support or visitors to focus on them.
